Fans of intriguing, scary and generally fantastic genre films will be thrilled to hear that the Festival of Fantastic Films is returning to Manchester once again this autumn.
Focusing on genre films and television, including science fiction, horror and fantasy, the festival is a feature event which brings together thousands of fans. At once an intimate film festival and a large-scale convention, the event features a terrifically diverse range of science fiction, horror and fantasy films, as well as other related elements. These include interviews with guests from in front of and behind the camera, discussions and panels featuring audience participation, memorabilia displays and auctions, and organised parties where attendees and guests can mingle.
Old and new films run throughout the three-day festival, and special showings of classics and foreign gems are featured.
Visitors can also get a taste of future filmmakers’ wares via the festival’s two film competitions. The Independent Film Competition features selected films, both short and full-length, while the Amateur Film Competition presents the truly low-budget from up-and-coming directors looking to break into the business in a big way.
Die-hard fans and lovers of the genre will enjoy the traditional Dead Dog Party when attendees have the opportunity to dress up in elaborate and detailed costumes and participate in trivia games and quizzes with the creators of their favourite films and shows.
