Plenty of reasons to visit Aalborg this year

The national tourist board of Denmark has offered holidaymakers a number of reasons to visit the city of Aalborg this year.

At the top of the VisitDenmark list is the Aalborg Carnival, which will take place between May 16th and 23rd this year.

Described as "Scandinavia's largest and most colourful carnival", the event will have a theme of 'la dolce vita', or 'the sweet life', and will attract about 100,000 people to Aalborg.

Another popular event this year will be the Aalborg Opera Festival, the only dedicated opera event in Denmark, which will be held at various venues around the city between March 13th and 22nd.

Productions that audiences will be able to enjoy this year include The Elixir of Love by Donizetti, Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov and Leonard Bernstein's small opera Trouble in Tahiti.

Ornithologists should head to Aalborg between May 21st and 25th for the Skagen Bird Festival, while music fans may be interested in visiting the Nibe Festival between July 1st and 4th.
