Cyprus Top for Honeymoon Retreat

Paphos, Seashore

Whilst Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge may have caused the Seychelles Mahe Island to rise in popularity as a honeymoon location, a prestigious survey has revealed that Cyprus is a top spot for newlyweds. The Weddings Abroad and Honeymoons magazine showed that Europe was a top spot for overseas honeymoon retreats taking the top three spots with Cyprus, Italy and Greece.

Surveying 1,600 British couples over their ideal honeymoon location, the magazine revealed that Cypriot destinations such as Larnaca and Paphos came top of the list. With the island enjoying a blissful Mediterranean climate, and also home to the fabled Greek goddess Aphrodite, couples were eager to spend the first days of their marriage on the island.

Whilst holidays in the United States took fourth place, and South Africa won fifth, it was other European nations which took second and third places in the survey. Italy, known for its history and iconic culture was second choice for honeymooners, whilst Greece, with its beautiful climate and gorgeous beaches came third.

Marketing Director of the magazine, Ursula Barzey, said that many couples loved southern Europe because flights were relatively cheap and easily accessible, and the climate was far more reliable than in the UK. She added that for those wanting to have their wedding abroad, these spots were also far less expensive than the UK.
