Car Hire Market Reveals Top British Winter Hotspots
The car hire market has revealed the top winter getaway spots for British holidaymakers after hotspots were revealed from bookings data. Whilst Belfast was a popular retreat for many, the majority of sought-after locations are those with a hot climate.
Collating data for hire bookings between December 2011 and January 2012, car hire specialists said that Belfast was a lure for some who wanted to enjoy traditional Irish festivities and a pint of Guinness. However, most people prefer sunny climates, with European locations doing particularly well.
Tenerife is a firm favourite for holidaymakers with winter temperatures between 17°C and 21°C, which are ideal for exploring and even taking to the beach on warmer days. Meanwhile, Faro drew the British crowds seeking gorgeous coastlines, well-developed resorts and warm weather. Though not particularly warm, Geneva also snagged a spot in the top five with winter holiday enthusiasts enjoying this city and its skiing opportunities.
For holidaymakers who don't mind venturing a little further afield, Cape Town is also very popular with British tourists. Average temperatures are between 15°C and 27°C, making it a great climate. With trips up Table Mountain, sunbathing at Camps Bay or going on safari, the South African capital is a highly sought-after destination this winter as people seek to escape the cold and find a sunny spot for a few weeks.
