Spain remains top beach favourite for British holidaymakers

Spain is one of the most traditional holiday locations for British holidaymakers. Whilst travellers might like to venture further afield and discover other beaches around the world, a new Beach Report has indicated that Spain remains the number one favourite for those wanting a Mediterranean retreat.

In the latest Beach Report, it was found that Spanish locations took five of the top 20 spots. Coming in at number one were the Balearic Islands, with places such as Ibiza and Palma continuing to draw huge numbers of visitors. This was closely followed by Portugal's Algarve coast at number two.

Andy Washington, a travel expert helping to report on the Beach Report, said that short haul travel continued to be popular for many British individuals, with trips over to Spain being quick, easy and comfortable. "We often see travel patterns changing in line with currency fluctuations, and we expect many Brits to take advantage of the relative strength of the pound against the euro, with European destinations growing in popularity as a result," he added, indicating that Spain would remain a popular destination in 2012. With 75% of people saying that price was the most important priority for beach holidays, cheap Spanish beaches are set to prosper.
