Often known as 'Windy Welly', the New Zealand city of Wellington is a beautiful harbour metropolis that offers stunning scenery and a laidback café lifestyle for the wandering traveller. Compact and friendly, the city has the Cook Straits clearly in its sights, providing the perfect opportunity for both urbanites and countryside lovers to enjoy this destination.

There are many places to explore in Wellington and for those lucky enough to be exploring the city at the weekend, the Frank Kitt's Underground Market and the City and Harbourside Markets are top spots for finding live music, local crafts and mouth watering cuisine. Meanwhile, for art lovers, the galleries on Victoria Street and Featherstone Street are ideal, as is the multitude of work that can be found in Civic Square's City Gallery.

A great attraction to take advantage of is the Wellington Cable Car, and tourists can traverse to the top of Botanic Gardens for stunning views across the city and the waters beyond. The Carter Observatory is also in this location, providing the perfect opportunity to indulge in many top attractions all at once.

For a fun and funky break, Wellington can be a fantastic city to explore. Courtenay Place is ideal for long nights drinking and dancing, and with both city attractions and rural retreats on the doorstep, this destination should not be missed when holidaying in New Zealand.
