The Send, Munster's biggest carnival
Large, fun fair mixing the culture of traditional Germany with the excitement of the fairground.
Adventure, excitement and an opportunity to enjoy a drink or two can all be had in the German destination of Munster. Held three times a year in spring, summer and autumn, The Send, Munster's biggest carnival and oldest fair in the area, attracts thousands of visitors every year. Hundreds of fairground rides from all across Germany gather during the festival to bring tried and tested favourites and new rollercoasters and attractions to the Hindenburgplatz in Munster.
Descending from a century-old religious gathering, each time The Send is in town, the Sendschwert, a sculpture of a disembodied arm holding a sword, is hung from the town hall to remind visitors that bad behaviour at this event was punishable by death. However, nowadays, the worst thing that could happen to you at the fair would most likely be motion sickness.
The fun fair offers a range of rides from pleasant family-friendly attractions to twisting, turning, stomach-dropping rollercoasters. There are also all of the expected activities of a fair such as stalls, arcades and amusements. Beer halls and booths offering ale are also present throughout the fair, but mixing alcohol with the rides is discouraged and anyone thought to be drunk will be banned from the rides.
Munster's The Send carnival has all the adrenaline and enjoyment of the fairground coupled with the appealing culture of the destination. Visitors interested in German tradition as well as those just looking for the thrill of the ride will find The Send an event well worth attending.
