One of the most anticipated and beautiful of those events is the Qinghai Tulip Festival.

The Tulip Festival is a celebration of one of spring’s most beautiful flowers. The tulip is world-renowned for its beauty and for being one of the first colourful signs of springtime all over the world. It is the same in Huangyan, where the festival brings together thousands of people to celebrate the change in seasons.

The festival takes place each May Day and draws tens of thousands of visitors from home and abroad. Striking tulips colour the region in the most stunning shades, heralding the beginning of a new season. Performances are held for the festival, both music and otherwise, and ethnic costumes are seen on many of the participants, adding a cultural flavour to the atmosphere. Chinese opera is also a part of the event. Shadow puppet shows are entertaining for adults and children alike.

The show also includes a photography exhibition that draws work from hundreds of professional photographers in China. There is also an exhibition of alpine and traditional medicinal herbs on display at the festival.
