Pensacola holds the Great Gulfcoast Arts Festival

The Great Gulfcoast Arts Festival is a highly acclaimed arts event within America. Attracting approximately 250,000 visitors each year, the destination of Pensacola becomes home to nearly 200 artists who are chosen from more than 600 applications.

The festival take place during the first weekend of November and lasts for three days. The stages and displays are located in the destination of the historic Seville Square. Every year Pensacola witnesses the top painters, sculptors, graphic artists, potters, craftspeople and many other forms of artists from across the nation come together.

The chosen artists are able to display their work and prizes are given for Best of Show. Others awards include Awards of Distinction, Excellence, Honour and Merit. In total there is a prize money of $25,000 available and the categories include drawing, watercolour, photography, wood, ceramics, sculpture, fibre/leather, glass, jewellery, oil/acrylic, printmaking/graphics and mixed media.

As well as art displays, music is played by the Pensacola Symphony. A popular performance during the festival, they play opera pop as well as opera and Broadway pieces. Other acts include Cajun, classical piano, zydeco and blues. There are also stage performances from theatre, ballet, folk and even bagpipes.

In addition there is the Children's Arts festival, which includes a number of hands-on activities, and the Student Art Show, where school students from Santa Rosa Counties and Escambia can display their work. The Heritage Arts, on the other hand, provide demonstrations of older crafts from all over the country, like spinning, blacksmithing, engraving and weaving.
