Flights to Israel

Israel is home to sites sacred to three world religions.

Israel is located in the Middle East, with borders shared by Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and the West Bank. It also has coasts on both the Mediterranean and Red Seas. Though it is a small country, it has diverse landscapes that vary from deserts to mountains.

The capital is Jerusalem, which is regarded as a holy city by Jews, Christians and Muslims. It is in the eastern portion of the country. Haifa, on the Mediterranean Coast, is the nation's busiest seaport, and is also home to the world headquarters of the Ba'hai faith.

The main airport is Ben Gurion International Airport, located in Tel Aviv. There are numerous flights that arrive here from European destinations on a daily basis. Another airport is located at Ovda, which is very accessible to the southern portion of the country.

Many of Israel's most popular attractions are found in the capital. The Western Wall, which is all that remains of the Temple, is a popular site for prayer. The Via Dolorosa lets Christian visitors retrace the steps of Jesus, as he was lead to his crucifixion. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is thought to be the site of the tomb he was laid to rest in. The Temple Mount is the site of the Dome of the Rock Mosque, as well as the Far Mosque, where Muslims believe Mohammad was taken to heaven. If you visit the Galilee area, you can drive along the 65-kilometre Jesus Trail to see important Christian sites.

Israel has a diverse economy. Agriculture plays a major role, as well as the manufacturing of high-tech products. Tourism is also a major industry.
