Seouls Incheon Airport (IIAC) has been named 'Best Airport Worldwide' for the second successive year at the 2006 Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Service Quality Awards held in Dubai on 12th March 2007.
Incheon dominated the awards, coming first in all its eligible categories: Best Airport Worldwide, Best Airport Asia-Pacific, Best Airport (25-40 million passengers per annum) and Airport People Award Asia-Pacific.
The awards are made based on responses to passenger surveys carried out throughout 2006 at the 86 participating airports.
ACI Director General Robert J. Aaronson, presenting the awards, said that airports worldwide have made customer service a major focus, and commended the efforts of the 86 airports in the Airport Service Quality scheme who were striving to improve customer service by measuring passenger responses to the services provided.
Jaehee Lee, President and CEO of IIAC, attributed Incheon's success to the efforts of the airport's 30,000 staff, and vowed to do all possible to maintain the same high standards in the future.
Other winners in the regional Best Airport awards were Zurich (Europe), Dallas Fort Worth (Americas) and Abu Dhabi (Middle East & Africa).
The surveys concluded that frequent travellers value a swift, hassle-free airport experience with minimal contact with staff, whereas leisure and less frequent flyers attached importance to friendly, courteous staff. Airport ambience and cleanliness of the terminal were found to be the key to customer satisfaction, followed by feeling safe and having comfortable waiting areas.
