Portuguese airline TAP Portugal commences flights from Lisbon to Brasilia on 19 July, making them the first airline to offer direct international flights to the Brazilian capital.
The flights will operate five times weekly, using Airbus A330 aircraft. The new services will significantly reduce travelling times for passengers connecting between London and Brasilia.
The new route has been introduced in response to substantial interest in tourism in Brasilia and Central Brazil.
The airline is also increasing frequency on its flights from Lisbon to Rio De Janeiro and Sao Paulo, making a total of 60 TAP flights per week between Portugal and Brazil. The airline's other Brazilian destinations include Natal, Recife, Fortaleza and Salvador.
It has recently been announced that the Portuguese authorities have given approval for TAP's acquisition of rival Portuguese carrier PGA Portugalia.
