Gulf Air introduces Iraq flights
Bahraini national airline Gulf Air has recently commenced a five times weekly service between Bahrain and the Iraqi capital Baghdad. The new services, which are timed to connect with flights to and from the carrier's major European destinations in less than three hours, have proved very popular: surpassing Gulf Air's previous best first week ticket sales for a new route.
The airline is anticipating significant demand for flights to Iraq as the country's economic recovery gains momentum. Gulf Air CEO Mr Samer Majali stated that the airline aims to become the market leader in operations to Iraq.
In addition to the Baghdad flights, which commenced 1st September, Gulf Air will also be launching four times weekly flights from Bahrain to the Holy City of Najaf from 26th September. From 26th October, the Najaf flights will operate daily, and a service from Bahrain to Erbil, in northern Iraq, will begin, initially operating three times per week.
The carrier's future plans also include services to Basra and Solamnia.
