TAP Portugal Adds New African Destinations
Portuguese carrier TAP Portugal will today (5 June) begin flights between its Lisbon hub and Bamako, capital city of the West African nation of Mali.
The flights, operated by Airbus aircraft, depart Lisbon on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, returning from Bamako on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The flights connect with TAP's services between Lisbon and other European cities including London.
From 1 July, the airline will also add another African destination to its network, the island of Sao Vicente in the Cape Verde Islands. Sao Vicente is the second most populous island in the archipelago, and its capital, Mindelo, is regarded as the nation's cultural centre.
Sao Vicente will be TAP's third destination in Cape Verde (the others being Sal and Praia). The new flights will operate to and from Lisbon on Tuesdays and Fridays, with the best London connections (in both directions) on the Friday service.
The launch of the Sao Vicente route will bring to thirteen the number of African destinations served by the Portuguese carrier, which carried 602,000 passengers on its African routes in 2010.
Other destinations served by TAP include Bissau, Luanda, Maputo and Sao Tome.
