It might not be the sort of event usually associated with San Francisco, but the city's annual Tulipmania festival takes place from February 18th to 26th.
The celebration of all things floral, or more accurately tulip-shaped, takes place on pier 39, where it has become a regular favourite with locals and tourists.
Featuring some 39,000 bulbs in full bloom, the festival promises to bring an early splash of summer to the city famously described as the "cool, grey city of love".
Pier 39 claims to be San Francisco's number one tourist attraction in its own right, boasting over 110 shops and 13 restaurants overlooking the bay. It also provides daily live entertainment, complete with sea lions and street performers.
