US west coast hit by storms
California has been hit by a barrage of storms over the past few days, leading to flood warnings and power cuts in some regions.
Almost as much as the total rainfall since July is expected to have hit the region by the time the storms subside.
The storms started last week and more than 100,000 homes around San Francisco bay were reported to be without power.
These setbacks should be only temporary and normal service is likely to be resumed in the near future.
Storms started earlier in the week but picked up again yesterday, accompanied by high winds leading to the evacuation of Twitchell Island.
However, weather experts say that the bad weather should move inland later today, leaving California to its more customary sunny climes and allowing residents to clear up the mess left by the recent bad weather.
