Singapore Airlines launches Moscow route
Singapore Airlines has opened a new route to Moscow from Singapore via Dubai.
The thrice weekly service was inaugurated with celebrations that included Russian folk dancers and welcoming bread and salt for the first arrivals.
Domodedovo International is Moscow's busiest airport that will allow connections to other flights in the country. Huang Cheng Eng, an executive vice president at Singapore Airlines, said: "Russia's rapidly growing economy and increasing disposable income will boost travel and trade between Russia and Singapore and beyond through the Singapore Changi Airport hub."
Major attractions to visitors taking the route are the Bolshoi Theatre, Gorky Park, St Basils Cathedral and Lenins Mausoleum in Red Square.
Flights are to be from Singapore to Moscow on Monday, Wednesday and Friday; and from Moscow to Singapore on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Journeys are to be made in Boeing 777-200 jets with first, business and economy classes that will mark Singapore Airlines' tenth European destination.
Mr Eng said that the new flights will benefit both the countries along with surrounding regions, taking advantage of growing business and tourist links between Russia and Asia.
