AA drops $1 soda
American Airlines (AA) will not be charging passengers for soda and juices, airline officials announced yesterday (March 7th).
AA admitted that the customer response to its infamous $1 sodas had been poor, with the airline responding to customer demand and dropping the charge.
The airline first introduced $1 sodas on some of its American Eagle commuter flights in California in January. At the time it claimed that the charge was a "test" and would not necessarily be rolled out across the entire fleet.
"We didn't sell a lot and we also got feedback from our customers saying they'd prefer that juices and sodas be complimentary," American Eagle spokesman Dave Jackson told CNN.
Mr Jackson added that other products "tested" by the airline had been more successful, such as the $5 blanket and pillow pack, which travellers can then keep.
AA neared bankruptcy in 2003 and has been attempting to cut costs ever since. In line with many other US airlines is has cut perks that used to be complementary.
The airline no longer provides free meals for domestic economy class passengers, with hungry travellers instead required to purchase sandwiches or snack boxes.
