Three million forget travel insurance
Millions of Britons are risking problems by travelling abroad without insurance, new research suggests.
Research by Sainsbury's Bank estimates that more than three million people travelled abroad without insurance in the past 12 months.
The under 24s were the worst offenders, with more than one million of them leaving Blighty without the security of a good insurance package.
Sainsbury's Bank are encouraging all travellers, but particularly those aged 16-24-years-old, to make travel insurance a priority, placing it on their holiday "to do" list along with sun tan lotion.
"Travel insurance is essential for anyone going abroad, even if they are just planning a long weekend. Last year, we estimated that there could have been around 241,000 travel insurance claims for medical or hospital care alone," said Karen Preston, travel insurance manager with the bank.
Pensioners were the second biggest offenders, with almost 500,000 65s and overs holiday without insurance in the past year.
