Stansted goes Wi-Fi
Travellers will now be able to access the internet from their own laptops at Stansted Airport.
This week, the Essex-based airport became the first in the UK to be fitted out with wireless internet access.
By the end of the month, Heathrow, Gatwick, Glasgow, Southampton and Edinburgh will also be wired up to the service, provided by Wi-Fi provider The Cloud in a deal arranged with the British Airports Authority.
The move will help travellers, particularly business flyers, avoid "dead time" at the airport, allowing them to check email and access the internet.
Users must buy a voucher from The Cloud, entitling them to anything from 30 minutes to 24-hour access at any of The Cloud's 6,000 hotspots.
While in the airport, users will be able to access the web from all major seating and retail areas.
Sanjeev Sarin from The Cloud said that recent research had shown that one in five UK executives are reliant on Wi-Fi hotspots when travelling on business, leading the company to predict that the service will be a success.
