Hong Kong looking for "record number" of UK visitors
Following a record number of visitors in 2005, Sue Whitehead, the regional director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), has said that the island is hoping to secure a larger proportion of UK-based visitors this year.
Ms Whitehead states that Hong Kong is currently undertaking a scheme to produce "major new attractions and infrastructure developments" in preparation for this.
She also draws attention to the 2006 Discover Hong Kong Campaign, which is attempting to highlight a range of tourist venues, including the Hong Kong Disney Land, Ngong Ping 360 and Hong Kong Wetland Park.
Ms Whitehead's comments follow the announcement that the HKTB has added another member to its team. Richard Hume, a former member of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, is joining the board as its director for northern Europe.
The HKTB states that Hong Kong is an "all year round destination", with a mild climate from September to February each year.
August is the month that has the highest rainfall and four fifths of Hong Kong's total precipitation occurs between May and September.
