Weekly flights to the Caribbean
Flying to the Caribbean will be increasingly easy from the end of March as Dutch airline Martinair has announced it is to run a new weekly service, from Schipol airport in Amsterdam to Bridgetown in Barbados.
The new service will operate every Wednesday from March 29th offering round trips to and from Europe and the Caribbean, with the option of upgrades offering extra leg room and a personal entertainment system.
The island of Barbados with its tropical forests and white sand beaches is the most Anglicised of the Caribbean islands, having been ruled by the British for 300 years when it served as a military base and a sugar growing region.
The bajans, as the locals call themselves, are still passionate about cricket, their national sport and in Bridgetown, the island's capital, there are many colonial buildings in a similar style to those found in London.
Among the sights to see there is even a Trafalgar square and a statue to the English Admiral, and with the official language still being English it makes any trip to Barbados both fascinating and extremely easy-going.
