A unique glimpse of the masters
For art lovers the main reason to head to Amsterdam this spring has to be the Rembrandt-Caravaggio exhibition at the city's Van Gogh Museum.
This year marks the 400th anniversary of the birth of master painter Rembrandt and it is being celebrated with a unique exhibition of more than 25 works of art.
For the first time the work of the celebrated Dutch painter is being exhibited alongside that of Caravaggio, his Italian counterpart, and will include a number of pieces from global collections, such as The Supper at Emmaus from London's National Gallery, in an exhibition which runs until June 18th 2006.
Amsterdam, the capital city of the Netherlands, has a long and rich history of seafaring and trading, and as a result perhaps, now has more museums per square meter than any other country in the world.
From Anne Frank House to Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art, there are many museums and galleries beyond the one dedicated to one of the city's most famous sons, Van Gogh, with something to intrigue every kind of visitor.
