BA announces daily Bermuda flights
British Airways has announced that as part of its extended summer schedule it will provide a new daily service to Bermuda.
For the first time since the 1970s the number of flights into and out of the island nation has increased from five a week to one per day, which means there are now nearly 50 per cent more seats available for passengers travelling between Bermuda and London's Gatwick airport.
British Airways district manager, Philip Troake, expressed his delight at BA's announcement, commenting: "It has been slow and steady growth since the Gulf War when the Bermuda route was in jeopardy of being axed, however, we always believed that it could stand on its own and with the growth of international business it has flourished to reach this daily service."
This route extension is just one part of BA's 2006 summer schedule, which has six new destinations including BA's first ever flights to Albania and Bulgaria's Black Sea coast.
Speaking to Bermuda's Royal Gazette, Mr Troake said that flights for the Easter period were already quite busy and although it was still a little early to judge how well they would do, advance booking were more positive than the previous year.
