The Chinese province of
Hong Kong is expecting a huge rise in tourist numbers for the upcoming Easter break, state news agency Xinhua reports.
The Hong Kong Immigration Department said it is expecting 4.77 million people to pass through its land, sea and air control stations between April 12th and 18th, up 7.6 per cent on the year before.
Lo Wu control point will see the bulk of visitors, with 2.17 million entering the administrative region through the zone.
Meanwhile, Lok Ma Chau control point will also see a heavy number of passengers pass through its terminal – with 1.11 million visiting
Hong Kong through the gates, which is around 158,000 a day.
The Department said that it will recruit extra staff to man land, sea and air control points to cope with extra demand and will work with the neighbouring Shenzhen authorities to ensure that movements remain orderly.
