Visitors travelling domestically in
New Zealand are to get access to an expanded domestic terminal at Auckland International Airport.
Commenting on the work, Air New Zealand group general manager, Norm Thompson, said the eastern end of the building used for provincial flights will be upgraded.
"We are expanding this end of the terminal space by 1,800 square metres to create a new gate lounge area for regional flights," he told the National Business Review.
However, international travellers are also to benefit from a host of improvements to the international terminal.
The airport states that upgrades will include changes to the international check-in area, increased baggage screening facilities, 12 new check-in counters.
A planned new walkway linking the international terminal with the hard-stands will remove the need for passengers to be transported to their flights by bus.
Planned changes to the airport, which is the major base for
Air New Zealand's flight operations, have been ongoing changes since 2004 but are expected to be completed before 2007.
