Fly to Miami in August and you could witness the colourful spectacle of the annual Bahamas Goombay Festival.
Every August crowds of around 100,000 take to the streets of
Miami to witness the centuries-old cultural celebration of music and dance in the city's Coconut Grove district, in what has been described as America's largest festival of black heritage.
From August 25th to 27th you can sample the sights, sounds and tastes of Bahamian culture which were developed from West African roots during the days of slavery.
One of the most popular sights of the festival is the junkanoo parade, with the junkanoo dancers dressed up in traditional paper costumes, dancing to the sounds of whistles and bells.
Visitors to the city can also take the opportunity to sample some traditional Bahamian cuisine, which includes delicacies such as conch fritters, along side the music, arts and crafts.
