Travellers flying to
Thailand this August can witness the country in its finest as the nation celebrates the birthday of their much-loved and highly revered Queen.
On August 12th the whole of Thailand will be garlanded in lights and flowers as the Thai people show their respect and reverence for their adored Queen on her birthday.
The best show is to be seen around the grand Palace along Ratchadamnoen Avenue in central
Bangkok, as the city puts on a light show to shame all others, alongside flowers and portraits of Queen Sirikit, who has been on the throne alongside her husband, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, since 1950.
The day is also Mothers' Day in Thailand and jasmine flowers, which symbolise the virtue of selflessness of the mother who gives her life to her children, can be seen every where.
As well as the grand displays and decorations, the day's celebrations also include various charitable events, offerings and donations to monks and family activities, as children honour their own mothers, as well as the Queen.
