Travellers who plan to
fly to Goa this summer should put aside the trance parties and louche living and pay a visit to the mud baths in Arambol.
One of the least over-developed of the island's beaches, Arambol has a unique fresh water lake, just inland from the coast, which is well worth a visit for its supposed healing properties.
The lake, which is hidden away in the forest at the foot of huge rocky cliffs, is fed by natural hot springs and lined with thick sulphurous mud which is said to do wonders for your skin.
Visitors to
Goa could make the most of an Arambol Ayurvedic mud massage or perhaps just take to the lake for free and coat themselves with the mineral-rich mud, allowing it to dry in the sun before jumping back into the hot spring to wash clean.
Arambol is a small village 32 kilometres north-west of Mapusa with beautiful beaches spreading both north and south from the village.
