Grab a
flight to Kenya in the next few years and you could enjoy a wider range of tourist destinations.
The Kenyan local government minister, Musikari Kombo, said yesterday that the country is to receive a funding boost from the EU designed to promote areas of
Kenya that people do not normally visit, reports the East African Standard.
Speaking after the departure of an EU delegation, Mr Kombo explained that there are areas in Kenya that have not yet been presented as possible tourist destinations.
He highlighted two examples of unexplored locations that could be a part of this expansion - the region surrounding Mount Kenya and areas such as the Kakamega Forest, which is Africa's only rainforest.
The forest offers a range of wildlife, with the Kenya Wildlife Service highlighting the 350 species of birds, 27 species of snakes, 400 varieties of butterflies and the seven primate groups, which include the black and white colobus monkey.
It is also hoped that the EU funding will improve economic health of the regions, as well as increasing employment opportunities.
