Budapest maybe known for its cultural and architectural traditions but August sees a whole new kind of music festival set up camp in the Hungarian capital.
Grab a
flight to Budapest this August and make your way to the city's Obudai Island, on the Danube river, for the country's biggest contemporary pop and rock music festival, the Sziget Festival.
Held from August 9th to 16th the Sziget, or island festival has grown into a week-long temporary "festival city" since it started 1993.
The festival now draws a huge range of musicians from across the globe to its five, very different, main stages which offer something for music fans of all ages and tastes.
From heavy metal via indie rock, jazz and electronica to world music, the festival also showcases art exhibitions, literary events, children's entertainments and classical music concerts, with this year's highlights including the Scissor Sisters, Franz Ferdinand and Radiohead.
Visitors to
Budapest can camp out on the island or stay in the city and travel to the festival site each day, with either a daily festival ticket or a week pass, costing from to £16 to £82.
For more information check out the
festival site.
