People flying to
Hong Kong this summer could be interested in visiting the many casinos in neighbouring Macau, on the south coast of China.
According to poker website MacauTexasHoldem.com, the destination is beginning to rival
Las Vegas in Nevada, US, as a gambling resort.
The "growing popularity" of poker tournaments around the world means that Macau is chosen as a venue in the near future, the site suggests.
The website says: "This is a very exciting time for Macau and its growing popularity as a premier travel destination for casino gambling."
Around nine million people visited Macau in 2000, but that figure rose to 19 million in 2005, with the tourist industry benefiting from the introduction of Las Vegas style casinos.
However, those individuals who
fly to Hong Kong may wish to stay and watch the nightly A Symphony of Lights show, which takes place across the Victoria Harbour.
The
Hong Kong Tourism Board suggests taking a harbour cruise to gather the best view of the show.
