Festus Mogae, the president of
Botswana, is looking to increase the number of tourists who visit his country.
President Mogae has recently met with president Horst Kolhler from Germany and president Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania, during which he pressed both leaders to encourage people within their own countries to visit
Botswana, reports Daily News.
Botswana's president added that he hoped both leaders would leave the country after enjoying a memorable visit.
Bostwana Tourism, the country's official tourism website, states that tourism and wildlife "are inextricably linked" with the country. It adds that 17 per cent of the country is protected and 20 per cent of Botswana is classified as a wildlife management area.
In addition, in 1999 it was found that there are 120,000 elephants living in the country.
Bostwana Tourism also expects the number of visitors to the country to increase by ten per cent between 1997 and 2010.
