Summer celebration in Vietnam

For those planning to fly to Vietnam in June the historic town of Hoi An is set to host a month long festival throughout the month, celebrating the traditions and culture of the region, alongside the modern international influences.

The culture and tourism event, entitled the Summer Emotion Festival, is now in its third and will open with a programme of music and art on the town's Cu Dai beach, Thanh Nien News reports.

The festivities will celebrate a whole host of activities from sand sculpting and kite flying to yachting and parasailing, to a graffiti contest and a best waiter competition.

There will also be the opportunity to witness some traditional Quang Nam province folk games and even catch the football world cup on the big screen, with both English and Vietnamese commentary.

The festival will conclude on June 29th with a fashion show of contemporary and traditional clothes.

Hoi An's history as an important seaport dates back to the 16th century and is one of four world heritage sites in Vietnam, with its Chinese style architecture having remained virtually unspoiled since the 17th century.
