September is the month to grab a
flight to Spain and head to the town of Segorbe in
Valencia, to witness the ancient tradition the townsfolk releasing bulls into the streets.
As part of the town's annual patronal festivities in honour of the Virgin de Esperanza in the first week of September, also known as the Semana de Toros or the week of bulls, visitors can witness the tradition of bulls being driven through the town by men on horseback.
Attracting crowds of around 200,000 people between September 8th and 14th every year, the bull running event, which dates back as far as the 16th century, begins with the 'Entrada de Toros y Caballos' (entrance of bulls and horses).
Tourists and locals alike can follow as the herdsmen separate off the bulls and then drive them through the streets along the traditional route through the calle del Argén and calle Colon where the crowds form a human barrier along the route.
The exciting event concludes as the bulls are corralled into the Plaza de la Cueva Santa and shut into an enclosure.
