Last week it was announced that
Qantas Airlines came second in the world's largest passenger survey, otherwise known as the Skytrax Awards.
The winner of the overall award was
British Airways. However, John Borghetti, the executive general manager at the airline, states that the second place is a "testament to Qantas' standards".
Mr Borghetti added that the positive result comes amid falling rankings for some other operators and Edward Plaisted, the chief executive officer of Skytrax, said the results showed
Qantas was among the world's elite airlines.
Qantas' origins can be traced back to 1920, when the airline was officially established and by 1921 it was operating a fleet of two war surplus biplanes.
Its fleet now offers a range of long haul services using Boeing 747s and Qantas is also investing in a range of new aircraft, which includes the Boeing 787 and Airbus 380.
The Skytrax study rated levels of satisfaction among 13.6 million passengers taken from 93 different nations.
