The
Democratic Republic of Congo could use its gorilla population to draw in tourists, according to a local expert.
Primatologist Pierre Kakule Vwirasihikya states that it is "his dream" to see tourists visit the native gorillas and generate funds as a result, reports Reuters.
Mr Vwirashihikya helped establish the Tayna Gorilla Reserve in the country, which is the home to two families of gorillas, and now hopes to use tourism to help sustain it.
However, tourists who do take a
flight to the Democratic Republic of Congo should be warned that viewing gorillas may not be an idyllic past-time as the primatologist also drew attention to the scars he's suffered while running away from the primates.
Nevertheless, grabbing a
flight to Africa can present people with the opportunity of viewing a range of wildlife – with countries such as
South Africa offering the chance to encounter elephants, cheetahs, lions and perhaps even the odd zebra.
