The annual New York City Marathon is a pretty unique experience for both running enthusiasts and spectators and those looking for a once-in-a-lifetime challenge should
fly to New York this November to catch the race.
For 37 years athletes and enthusiastic amateurs have pounded the 26 mile course around the city's five boroughs, crossing five bridges and experienced the crowds of around two million spectators around the length of the course, which this year will be run on November 5th.
Beginning on Staten Island the marathon, which last year saw 36,856 people cross the finish line, ends in Central Park.
Described as New York road runners' premier event, participants will experience all sides of
New York, passing by and through such iconic locations as the Yankee stadium, the Guggenheim Museum and Fifth Avenue.
With overall prize money of $500,000 (£272,000) there are also opportunities for enthusiastic runners to enter various races within the overall race with prizes for different groups and individuals including the Foot Locker Five Borough Challenge, The Mayor's Cup, the Alberto Salazar Award and the Borough Award.
