For a taste of some little-known and less-performed opera in world class surroundings, travellers should take a
flight to Ireland this October.
Regarded as the world's fastest growing small opera festival, the Wexford Opera Festival in
Ireland, which this year runs from October 25th to November 5th, offers opera-lovers a unique opportunity to see some new and interesting talent from around the world, in the form of directors, designers and musicians.
This year's programme is set to include a number of brand-new productions, choral and orchestral concerts, lunchtime recitals, talks and stand-up shows, as well as an extensive fringe programme.
Visitors can look forward to performances of two operas this year, Donizetti's Don Gregorio and Transformations by Conrad Susa, which is based on Anne Sexton's reinterpretations of the Grimm brothers' fairytales, as well as performances by the Ulster Orchestra and a selection of food-inspired Rossini creations.
For those who fancy some thing a little different, the Wexford Moving Picture Show will be screening early horror movie images with live piano accompaniment on Halloween night.
Ticket prices for the festival events range from €95 (£65.50) to €10 (£6.90) and are available online or can be booked on the box office phone line.
