For a glimpse of some wonderful and unusual film works, movie lovers and anthropologists should grab a
flight to New York this November.
One of the longest running international documentary showcases in the United States, the Margaret Mead Film & Video Festival is a programme of works by artists and anthropologists, embracing everything from experimental non-fiction to indigenous community media.
Held annually at the American Museum of Natural History in
New York, this year's festival is set to run from November 8th to 12th.
2006 will also mark the film festival's 30th anniversary having been founded in honour of pioneering anthropologist Margaret Mead in 1977, to mark both her 50th year at the museum and her 75th birthday.
This year's screenings, which will include around 90 films from across the globe, will explore various topics including music and borderlands, unexpected cultural ties, women's rights, reconsidered identities, housing in America and love in a war
