For a celebration of the liberal arts, creative-minded folk should take a
flight to Chicago in October to check out the annual Chicago Humanities festival.
Attracting a broad range of academics, journalists, writers, artists, politicians, philosophers and members of the public, this year's festival will address the issue of War and Peace: Facing Human Conflict.
Held at various venues across
Chicago, the festival will explore a wide range of topics, through both the arts and sciences, loosely woven around various the aspects of human conflict and accord, from ancient times to the present day.
This year's festival, which is now in its 17th year, will take place from October 28th and November 12th.
Speakers and performers will include such figures as Pulitzer-prize winning author Samantha Power, financier and global affairs commentator Felix Rohatyn, war correspondents Chris Hedges, A.J. Langguth, Stephen Kinzer, and Jackie Spinner, and Canadian-Israeli architect Moshe Safdie.
The festival will also include a programme of events for children and families, exploring the big themes through theatre, music and creative workshops.
