Hawaii has taken the top spot for the tenth year in a row in Modern Bride magazine's latest annual survey of the world's best honeymoon destinations.
The survey, conducted by a network of 6,000 US travel agents, found that Hawaii won out for its beaches, diving and snorkelling opportunities and food, as well as romance and sexy ambience.
Tahiti,
Italy,
Mexico and
Fiji also joined
Hawaii in the top five honeymoon destinations list, while Anguilla,
St Lucia,
Bermuda,
France and
Costa Rica made it into the top ten.
The Honolulu Star Bulletin quotes Modern Bride magazine as saying: "Hawaii and honeymooners are like chocolate and macadamia nuts. Both are great on their own, but together they're irresistible.
"The mix of the familiar and the exotic means there's an aloha experience for everyone. Just a short plane ride from California, Hawaii puts paradise at the honeymooner's fingertips."
Recent figures from the US state department of business, economic development and tourism show that visitor numbers are down in the year to date, showing a 13 per cent drop in the number of foreign honeymooners heading to
Hawaii.
Travel editor at Modern Bride, Donna Heiderstadtm, revealed to Forbes that the average age for women to marry is now 27 and 29 for men.
