Visitors who plan to
fly to Budapest this autumn should pay a visit to the city's famous Vidam Park with its traditional fairground rides and modern amusement park attractions.
For 200 years there has been a fairground in
Budapest and fifty years ago it merged with the city's English Park to create the Vidam Park.
The park is a wonderful mix of old and new, with some of the oldest rides being its most popular attractions, five of which have been declared listed historic sites.
These rides include the award-winning traditional merry-go-round whose horses date back to 1906 and Europe's longest wooden rollercoaster, which is 70 years old.
Visitors can also enjoy such unique rides as the cave railway – formerly known as the railway of the dragon – which is themed around a poem by the famous Hungarian poet Sandor Petofi.
There are plenty of recent hair-raising rides to keep thrill-seekers entertained too and throughout the weekdays in October and November there is no admission fee.
For more information visit the
Vidam Park website.
