For some spectacular, fast-paced watery action with a touch of history, take a
flight to Singapore in November.
Taking place on the weekend of November 11th and 12th, those planning a trip to
Singapore can catch the excitement of the 24th Singapore River Regatta.
With around 100 teams expected to take to the Singapore River in dragon boats, with their drums and colourful adornments, to race for various prizes and awards, the Regatta is expected to be an exciting event for all the family.
There are a number of ancient rituals surrounding the dragon boat event, stemming back to religious and spiritual beliefs, with ceremonial blessings and burning of offerings before the boats set sail, which add interest to the festival.
Dragon boat racing was first introduced to
Singapore in 1978 when the nation was invited to participate in the Hong Kong Races.
Singapore then held its own dragon boating event, in the same year, a tradition which has continued every year since, with increasing popularity.

Singapore Dragon Boat Association website.
