Travellers taking a
flight to Vienna to enjoy some pre-Christmas shopping should make sure they pay a visit to the Rathausplatz Christmas Market.
This historic, annual event is a celebration of all of the traditional European Christmas delights, offering visitors the chance to shop for beautiful and unique gifts among the art and crafts stalls and sample some traditional seasonal food and drink.
Open every day from November 18th until December 23rd from 09:00 to 21:00 local time and until 17:00 on Christmas Eve, the Viennese market has plenty to keep visitors of all ages entertained.
Market-goers in
Vienna can enjoy delights such as hot mulled wine and spiced baked apples, live music and Christmas choirs, puppet shows and pay a visit to the 'post office in the clouds' in the winter wonderland of the Rathausplatz.
Young holidaymakers can also get into the Christmas spirit at one of the market's Christmas workshops inside Vienna's historic City Hall where they can have a go at handicrafts, bake Christmas cookies and perhaps make some Christmas presents for their family and friends.
