A new resource booklet for travellers has been launched by the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta).
The holiday health check booklet, which has been produced by Sanofi Pasteur MSD, gives advice to holidaymakers on how to avoid potential health risks and stay safe while travelling abroad.
Endorsed by the British Travel Health Association, the booklet is now available through Abta members and travel agents.
Executive committee member of the British Travel Health Association, Cate Riley, commented: "The number of people who are travelling abroad and not taking the appropriate precautions is alarming.
"Holiday health check is a welcome initiative in informing UK travellers about health and safety precautions required whilst abroad."
The number of holidaymakers choosing to travel overseas to European, Australian and US destinations has increased by 117 per cent in the last ten years, according to Traveldailynews.com.
Head of corporate affairs at Abta, Keith Betton, said: "The most recent figures available show that over 60 million visits abroad are made by UK residents each year, so it is important that we have the information to help protect people against risk factors such as disease, illness and accidents."
Abta represents 850 tour operators and over 6,000 travel agents throughout the British Isles.
