British travellers take almost £1,660 worth of items in their hand luggage on every trip, according to new figures.
Items such as mobile phones and digital cameras are adding up to a small fortune in holidaymakers' bags, according to esure.
The insurer advises consumers to ensure they have the right level of travel insurance in case the worst happens and valuable belongings go astray or become damaged.
"With prices of hi-tech gadgets continuing to rise and technology developing so swiftly, it's crucial for people not to lower their guard whilst on holiday and only take necessities with them," says Jacky Brown, head of travel insurance at esure.
"Holidaymakers should make sure that they have adequate travel insurance cover for peace of mind."
Halifax Travel Insurance states that 3.9 million travellers have had an insurance claim for theft refused because they did not have the correct type of policy.
