Holidaymakers looking to grab a
flight to Phuket in Thailand could sample the annual Phuket King's Cup Regatta this winter.
One of Asia's most prominent yacht races, the regatta was originally held in 1987 to celebrate the King of Thailand's 60th birthday.
It attracts competitors from across the globe, including Hong Kong, Canada and Singapore, as well as a number of local sailors.
Held between December 2nd and 9th, the regatta awards prizes to the boats that perform the best in the Racing, Premier Cruising, Performance Cruising, Cruising, Classic, Ocean Multihull and Platu One Design class divisions, providing a range of thrills for spectators and sailors alike.
Those looking for a break from the racing can explore the delights of the island of
Phuket, taking in tropical scenery and local cuisine at their leisure.
With 2006 marking both the 20th anniversary of the Phuket King's Cup Regatta and the King's diamond jubilee, this year's event is set to be particularly special.
