New rules over what can and cannot be taken in hand luggage throughout Europe could be introduced in the coming weeks.
While the UK is already seeing restrictions being enforced throughout its airports, the same is not being done on the continent.
Officials are meeting to discuss new rules that could also see passenger information being provided in advance by airlines.
This is already being carried out for flights running to the US.
These meetings are taking place shortly after a woman was found on a flight to the US with a jar of hand cream in her bag, despite going through several security checks at Heathrow.
Home secretary John Reid said that the new rules were needed so "we don't have a position where terrorists feel if it is difficult to get through security checks in London, they might be able to go to Paris or Frankfurt or Berlin".
