Travellers with a penchant for the athletic will enjoy
flying to Lisbon for the 21st annual Lisbon Marathon.
Taking place on December 3rd, the event attracts a host of well-known runners for the professional race, as well as the thousands of people taking part for charity or personal reasons.
Despite taking place in the winter, average temperatures for the event are generally around 12 degrees Celsius, providing an ideal climate for long or short-distance running.
The marathon starts in the Praca do Comerico area of
Lisbon, taking three looping routes to the east, west and north of the city.
For those who prefer to watch, the starting point provides the best view of the race, as the marathon runners pass it twice during the event.
Check out the
official Lisbon Marathon website for further information.
